This was an experiment I knocked up while simultaneously trying to learn the Google Visualizations API and also come up with a name for our baby. It helped more with the former than the latter. The data is drawn from the Social Security Administration; if you'd like to play with it yourself, you can find it here and here.
To view the trend for a boy's or girl's name, just pick it from the list and wait a moment for the graph to draw. You can remove a name by control-clicking (Linux and Windows) or command-clicking it.
You may need to use Firefox, Chrome or Safari to view this page -- I've tested it with MSIEv6 a bit but don't have access to more recent IE versions or much inclination to try.
